Creative Writing Prompt #5

Back to square one? Really? (Too much SNL lately.) What was the origin of this? Checkers or chess? I imagine a cake walk, maybe (St. Tim's Carnival!), but which square is the first in a circle? That came out sounding even more awkward than I anticipated.

I'm thinking now that listening to music wasn't a great idea for a three-minute freewrite, especially slow, thinky music.

Back to square one with this, though, eh? Back to the very first square there ever was, an intersection in the first downtown, perhaps, couple of hairy men standing around chatting about the weather. Why are there cavemen in a downtown? Cave communities have no downtowns.

Wow, three minutes is fast when you're writing, even if you're just free-writing about being back to square one. Oofta. Only thing worse than using cliches is free-writing about them. Well, maybe there are a few things worse. Stepping in gum, for example.
